Chettinadu Pepper Thattai is a deep-fried snack prepared during Janmashtami or Sri Krishna Jayanthi festival & Diwali. Thattai is also called Nippattu in Kannada and Chekkalu in Telugu. This unique snack made uses Rice flour, Urad dhal, Black pepper, Sesame, Chana daal (Bengal gram), Butter, Asafoetida, and Groundnuts. Pepper Thattai is another excellent form of thattu vadai with the same traditional taste pepped up a bit with pepper for more flavor.

This lengthy process starts from getting good-quality raw rice. It is soaked in water for 1-2 hours and drains all water from it. It dried under the shadow, spreads on clean cotton cloth. This dried rice grind is in a stone grinder. In order to get a traditional taste, this process is mandatory.
